What the heck is Sucaryl?! It may sound like a character from a sci-fi novel but, like saccharin or aspartame, it’s an artificial sweetener that once danced across our grocery shelves. Besides causing “crazy eyes” (see old advertisement above), it has also been linked to bladder cancer, liver damage, and fertility problems.
Lucky for us, this additive was banned in the U.S. in the ’60s but there are many others that have taken its place and continue to be crammed into our food.
The only way to make sure you’re not part of the next chemical experiment is to eat organic, unmodified foods. Our cherries, for instance, are sweetened only by soil and sun.
